Video surveillance

CCTV cloud storage
for months, not days.

NVRs fill up and start overwriting the oldest footage, often before your retention period is over. Move older recordings to storage hosted in India, keep them as long as you need, and lock the ones that matter.

The problem

Cameras keep recording. Disks don't keep up.

Footage disappears quietly

When local storage is full, the NVR overwrites the oldest recordings. Nobody notices until someone asks for last month's clip.

Evidence has to stay intact

Footage for an investigation or insurance claim needs to be preserved exactly as recorded.

Twenty sites, twenty setups

Retail chains, warehouses and campuses struggle to keep one retention policy across every location.

Sizing

How many TB will you need?

A rule of thumb for continuous recording. Motion-based recording and newer codecs usually come in lower.

GB per camera per day = bitrate in Mbps × 10.8 Total TB = GB per day × cameras × retention days ÷ 1,000
Continuous recording, approximate figures.

How it fits together

Recent footage local. The rest in Stornox.

  1. 01

    Record as you do today

Cameras keep writing to the NVR or VMS. The last few days stay on site for fast review.

  2. 02

    Archive the older footage

Your VMS or an archiving tool moves older recordings to an S3-compatible bucket on Stornox.

  3. 03

    Lock what needs locking

Set a retention period with Object Lock so archived footage cannot be edited or deleted early.

  4. 04

    Pull clips when asked

Find and restore archived footage through your VMS when an incident needs review.

FAQ

Questions we get asked.

How much storage does one CCTV camera use per day?

Multiply the camera's bitrate in Mbps by 10.8 to get GB per day for continuous recording. A camera streaming at 2 Mbps uses about 21.6 GB a day. Motion-only recording and H.265 usually bring that down a lot.

Can CCTV footage be stored in the cloud?

Yes. The usual setup keeps the last few days on the NVR or VMS server for quick review and moves older footage to cloud object storage for the rest of the retention period. Your VMS or an archiving tool needs to support an S3-compatible target.

Will Stornox work with my VMS?

It works with video management and archiving software that can write to S3-compatible storage. Check your VMS vendor's documentation for S3 archive support, then test it with us on a trial bucket.

How do I stop footage being deleted or edited?

Put Object Lock on the archive bucket. Locked clips cannot be changed or deleted until the retention period ends, which helps when footage may be needed as evidence.

What upload speed do I need?

Enough to move a day's footage in less than a day. For 100 cameras at 2 Mbps that is about 2.2 TB a day, or roughly 200 Mbps sustained. Many sites upload overnight. We can work this out with you.
