S3 compatible object storage,
hosted in India.
If your software can talk to Amazon S3, it can usually talk to Stornox. Change the endpoint and keys, keep your scripts and backup jobs, and store the data in India on a rupee rate card.

What you get
The parts of S3 people actually use.
We focus on the S3 features that backup software, media workflows and applications rely on every day.
Standard S3 API
Buckets, objects, prefixes and the usual SDK calls. Your code keeps its shape.
s3 apiBig files, uploaded in parts
Multipart upload handles large files and resumes after a dropped connection. One object can be up to 5 TB.
max object: 5 TBVersioning
Overwrote the wrong file? Earlier versions stay in the bucket until you or a lifecycle rule removes them.
versioningObject Lock
Write-once retention in compliance or governance mode. The feature most backup tools use for immutable copies.
object lockEncryption
AES-256 encryption, with client-side encryption available if you want to hold the keys yourself.
aes-256Erasure-coded storage
Each object is split into coded fragments and spread across storage nodes in India, so a failed node does not take your data with it.
erasure codingWhere it fits
What customers put in it.
Off-site backups
Immutable copies from Veeam, Commvault, Rubrik and NAS boxes.
Cloud backup → cctvSurveillance video
Weeks or months of camera footage that local NVRs can't hold.
CCTV storage → healthcareMedical images
Older PACS studies moved to an archive that stays in India.
Imaging storage → archiveRecords and logs
Data you must keep for years and hope never to open.
Archive storage → drA copy away from the office
The copy you restore from when the primary site is gone.
Disaster recovery → mediaVideo libraries
Raw footage, masters and course recordings.
Media storage →Getting started
From sign-up to first upload.
- 01
Get an endpoint and keys
We set up your account and send the S3 endpoint URL, an access key and a secret key.
- 02
Create a bucket
Use the console, the AWS CLI or any SDK. Switch on versioning and Object Lock now if the bucket is for backups.
- 03
Point your tool at it
Add Stornox as an S3-compatible target in your backup, VMS or application settings. Our setup guides cover the common ones.
- 04
Bring old data across
Copy existing data with rclone or let your backup software re-seed. See the migration notes.
Quick test with the AWS CLI
If that returns your bucket list, every other S3 tool on that machine can connect the same way.
FAQ
Questions we get asked.
What does S3 compatible mean?
It means Stornox understands the same API requests that Amazon S3 does. Software written for S3 can usually talk to Stornox once you change the endpoint URL and the access keys.
Will my application work without code changes?
If it uses standard S3 calls (put, get, list, delete, multipart upload, versioning, Object Lock), it usually will. Apps that depend on a provider's own extras, such as event triggers or analytics services, need a workaround for those parts. A one-week test with your real workload will tell you for sure.
Which tools work with Stornox?
Anything that lets you enter a custom S3 endpoint is worth trying: Veeam, Commvault, Rubrik, Nakivo, Synology Hyper Backup, QNAP HBS, rclone, restic and the AWS CLI are common ones. See integrations, and check your vendor's own compatibility notes for your version.
Where is my data physically stored?
On Stornox infrastructure located in India. We can share site details for your account during onboarding.
Can I lock backups so they cannot be deleted?
Yes. Turn on versioning and S3 Object Lock for the bucket and set a retention period. Until it ends, locked objects cannot be overwritten or deleted.
